STEP 1

Set Your Big Vision

With the Future Self vision pages and Annual Goal Overview, you can set your most important writing goals and projects for the year.

The Future Self method helps you set better goals

CLARITY - When you envision your future self, how they live, what they've accomplished, you create clarity about what you really want.

PURPOSE - You gain a powerful sense of purpose and meaning. Seeing Your Future Self gives you hope and motivation along the journey.

PRIORITIES - Ditch to-do lists. Instead, focus on the biggest priorities that will 'make the boat go faster' towards becoming your Future Self.

Top tip: Don't stress about the Future Self method. The Future Self prompts on the big vision page and the goal setting spread will automatically prompt you. You just open the planner and start, the rest is easy!

1

Envision

Clarify your creative dreams for the next 12 months - what has your Future Self published?

2

Connect

Emotionally connect to that goal - how will writing make your life different and better?

3

Support

What people, skills and habits will help you become your Future Self?

4

Stop

What's one thing you will stop to turn your vision into reality?

5

Start

To become your Future Self, what is one small thing you will start doing?

STEP 2

Make Your Goals Manageable

For a goal to become feasible, you need to know exactly how it will look like when it’s done and know the first steps to start.

Your writing goals are easier when each action step is clear

SPECIFIC - Note how exactly your writing project will look like when it's done, including deadline and quantifiable targets.

MICRO STEPS - Even the biggest projects are simple when you know the first five action steps and roadmap to the finish line.

PROCESS - Prolific writers don't just focus on the goal, but also on the writing process, including potential obstacles and accountability.

Top tip: Luckily, the planner does all this for you. Just fill in the "Goal" and "Goal Roadmap" pages and these steps are built in for you. Easy!

1

Clarify

Summarise your goal at the top of the "Goal" page, including target metrics.

2

Future Self

Underneath your goal, journal about how this goal is important for your Future Self.

3

Action Steps

Decide on your first 5 action steps to know where to start.

4

Process

How do you want to feel when you're writing, what might stop you, and who or what will hold you accountable?

5

Feasible timeline

Plan out each milestone on your timeline with the "Goal Roadmap" page to bullet-proof your goal.

STEP 3

Create Weekly Momentum

To establish a consistent writing habit, use the weekly spreads to prioritise goals, break them down, slot them in, and track your progress.

Your regular writing habit is easier with these four steps

BIG 3 - Every week, the weekly spreads help you set your 'big 3' priorities for the next 7 days. You can finally drop massive do-do lists.

BREAKDOWN - Each of your top goals is broken down into action steps, so you don't have to think about it when you start writing.

TIME BLOCK - Slot in your daily activities in an overview table, being intentional about your tasks (e.g. read, write, mindmap, edit).

TRACK - Measure your progress and reflect on your process each week. This helps you celebrate your wins and turn failures into learning points.

Top tip: Remember, you don't have to think about these steps while you're working on your projects. Just use the planner and the prompts will guide you through each step to keep it simple for you. The planner 'is' the writing habit.

1

Set Your Big 3

At the top of the weekly spread, you write your non-negotiable priorities.

2

Micro Tasks

Right underneath, you give yourself the first three action steps to make it easy to start.

3

Time Block

On the right hand side you plan out your writing week (and breaks).

4

Track & Reflect

Track your progress at the bottom of the weekly spreads with a reflection area and daily tracker.

5

Bonus: Process

In the middle of the weekly goal setting section, you can note additional tasks, your habit focus, and what to say 'no' to.
